The Yoga Series: Improve Your Wheel Pose & Release Your Hips

We’re going to continue on our journey of wheel pose or bridge but this time, the focus will be on releasing your hips! This video will teach you how to improve mobility in your hips in order to decrease back pain and improve your wheel pose!

What happens a lot in wheel pose is that the legs start to fall into an external rotation. Not that that’s bad because it actually can help to relieve pressure in the low back if you don’t have a good hip extension. Oftentimes the cue is to roll the knees in toward each other, but if you don’t have an adequate hip extension to allow that to happen, the pressure’s going to go all in to the low back. So rather than forcing your body in a position that it is not ready for, let’s prep the body for that proper position!

That’s where hip extension becomes super important. And this is for everyday life too! We need hip extension for walking, for running, for every activity that we do throughout our days in our lives. It’s super crucial! So in this post, I’m going to show just a couple of my favorite stretches to really help you have a good and proper hip extension.
